Another senior judge, Justice Tšeliso Monaphathi, is also expected to leave the bench after reaching retirement age.

thepost understands that there was also a vacancy that was not filled during the last round of judges’ interviews.

In a circular issued this week, the Registrar of the High Court, ’Mathato Sekoai, invited the public to nominate qualified individuals for the positions.

It also asked organisations such as churches and NGOs to nominate possible candidates for the positions.

Interested individuals must fill in a nomination form, which provides the basic information about the candidate and must be signed by the applicant or nominated person.

Nominees and individual applicants must complete an authorisation form, allowing the JSC secretary to obtain a statement of the applicant’s or nominee’s current and past standing from the Law Society of Lesotho and other regulatory bodies.

They must also fill in the background check consent form to agree to a background check of health status and general compliance with Lesotho’s laws.

They also have to fill in a questionnaire to provide basic data for oral interviews and subsequent assessment by the JSC.

Sekoai said the names of all applicants and nominees will be published.

She said once the names have been published, she will issue invitation of written objections to the applicants and nominees to the public, NGOs, lawyers, the prosecution office, the National University of Lesotho’s Faculty of Law, and churches.

The circular says qualifying candidates will be subjected to psychometric assessments to constitute a shortlist.

The shortlisted candidates will be published and they will be interviewed in public.
