The theme of the first race is “selling Healthy Lifestyle” which Minet Lesotho’s chief financial and operating officer, Lehlomela Mokhati, said falls perfectly in line with the company’s community-centred philosophy that is anchored on education, health and building sustainable communities.
“The reason the marathon will take place in Thaba-Bosiu is that we want to make this event more special because Basotho are celebrating 200 years since the formation of the Basotho nation,” Mokhati said.
“We promise to deliver an exhilarating blend of athleticism, camaraderie and celebration,” he added.
The marathon will include competitions in four race categories: the traditional full marathon distance of 42 km, the half-marathon (21 km), as well as two shorter races of 10 km and 5km.
Minet Lesotho’s goal for their inaugural marathon is to attract athletes from other countries and uplift small businesses in the region, Mokhati said.
“Whether you are a seasoned runner aiming for a personal best or a first-time participant embarking on a transformative journey, there is something for everyone at our marathon,” he said.
Although the sums are yet to be confirmed, prizes will be awarded to the respective race winners.
“Join us as we embark on this epic journey of sweat, tears and triumph at the Minet Independence Marathon.
“Together, let us make history, one step at a time,” Mokhati said.
