The event is meant to bring together Basotho from all walks of life to celebrate their shared heritage and cultural identity as they celebrate 200 years as a nation.

Speaking at a press conference last Friday, festival director Makhetha Motšoari said the young generation does not know their national cuisine.

“So it will be a great opportunity for them to be there to observe how they are properly dished, the ingredients used and also taste them,” Motšoari said.

“We invited the Lesotho Chefs Association (LCA) to cook,” he said.

The festival will also highlight various components of Basotho culture that includes storytelling, crafts and traditional music.

It will present a valuable opportunity to boost Lesotho’s tourism sector.

“By intertwining food and culture, we create a holistic celebration of Basotho identity. By showcasing our unique cultural offerings and culinary traditions, we aim to attract both domestic and international visitors, contributing to our economy through increased tourism revenue,” he said.

Motšoari said the community around Ha-Foso will benefit from this event by providing parking space, selling cooking ingredients to be used in the festival cooking demonstration and also providing accommodation for visitors.

One of the organisers of Africa Investment Summit (AIS), Sindiswa Mzamo, said they will engage in this event and make sure that they bring some investors that will see how they can help in Lesotho.

“With the AIS, we are looking for business people from Africa, Europe, company CEOs, company chairmen and that will actually look at the investment opportunities coming to Lesotho,” she said.

She said they have partnered with the Lesotho Tourism Development Cooperation (LTDC) and are looking forward to the greatness they see in Lesotho.

She said there will be visitors from Zambia, Malawi and France to taste Basotho traditional food.

The SBI programme manager, Motlatsi Tsatsi, said they partnered with BLP because they resolved to stimulate growth and innovation within the tourism sector.

He said the festival embodies their dream of promoting cultural heritage, supporting local economies and creating sustainable tourism experiences that benefit both the community and visitors alike.
