Windfall for Charity Cup winners

Speaking to thepost yesterday, MMC’s sales and marketing manager, Makoa Semethe, said the company aims to rotate the tournament across all districts, ensuring there is a new host each year.

Bantu will manage gate takings and will distribute the funds to vendors in Mafeteng, just as Lioli did last year when ‘Tse Nala’ were hosts in Berea.

In 2023, Lioli collected M60 000 in gate takings, M50,000 of which was dispersed to the Berea business community while the remaining M10,000 was allocated towards building an orphanage home.

The Berea business community received their share on Tuesday due to delays in forming an accountable committee.

“We are the ones to decide where the gate takings money goes,” Semethe said.

“Our mandate is to change the economy and lives. We don’t make suggestions on what to do with the money; the office of the District Administrator (DA) and their committee will decide. The DA is also there to oversee things,” he added.

Semethe explained the delay in the Berea business community receiving funds from last year’s MMC Charity Cup.

“We did not know who to call when making follow-ups on their decisions regarding the money, but now we will, as they have formed the committee. This committee will be accountable for the money,” he said.

The MMC Charity Cup’s initiative to rotate host districts aims to foster community development and economic growth through sports.

The company says it aims to give a significant boost to local businesses and charitable projects in the host districts.
