Tlhabeli Thejane, 35, from Litsoetse, Koma-Koma in Thaba-Tseka, had M8 000 which he had stashed in his gumboots. But because he was heavily intoxicated, he forgot where he had placed the money and accused a neighbour of stealing it.

He then went to his neighbour’s house where he demanded that they hand over his money.
Detective Police Constable Tlala Rantlhomela from the Mohlanapeng Police told thepost that when the house owner denied that he had stolen the money, Thejane drew a gun and pulled the trigger, killing the man’s wife on the spot.
Another bullet grazed the neighbour’s ear.
“We received a report on the evening of August 9 that one family in the village had been attacked,” DPC Rantlhomela said.
DPC Rantlhomela said when they arrived at the house, they found the neighbour bleeding from the ear while his wife was lying on the floor, dead.
He said the village chief handed over a 9mm Parabellum pistol to the police, explaining that it was handed over by Thejane.
He said the chief told them that Thejane had just withdrawn M8 000 from a bank and forgot where he had put it.
So he went to his neighbour’s family believing that they had stolen it.
“After that unfortunate act, the accused found his money while he was removing some gumboots in his house,” DPC Rantlhomela said.
DPC Rantlhomela said Thejane then fled the scene but surrendered to the Thaba-Tseka police in the morning of August 10.
He appeared before Magistrate Qhomane last Monday charged with murder, attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
He was remanded in custody and will be back in court before the end of this month.
